The MacDowell Colony is a client that we have been proud to work with for many years. They have been in existence for over 100 years. The Colony is one the premier artist colonies in the United States and uses this website is one of the main tools to connect with future fellows and alumni. We have maintained and enhanced the site greatly over the past 5 years, bringing the Colony's virtual face to the public up to a level that they deserve and require. MacDowellColony.org is a robust website that performs as an interactive tool to engage the audience. Rich content and interactive areas create a vibrant environment for the artists and onlookers. Many design changes have been incorporated into the site design, and we have added numerous improvements on the front and backend.
A few of the improvements that we have made over the years include: News ticker display on the homepage; streamlined and improved functioning of navigation and Flash animation; Web forms which allow users to signup for E-mail and traditional news subscriptions, a custom calendar system to allow alumni to post events to a robust online calendar; an interactive timeline to demonstrate their 100 years of history; secure forms which allow online donations and ticket purchases for fund raisers; and most recently we launched an online application system that greatly improves the tedious administrative tasks for the admissions department. Several months in the making, the online application - a multiple step process, with complex scripting and prompts for usability, promises to provide a streamlined and intuitive application process for the applicant and the Colony. In addition to maintaining and enhancing the website, we have worked with The Colony on numerous print design projects, spin off website projects and the design and layout of their semi-annual tabloid size newsletter. For more on those projects, please visit our Print Portfolio by clicking here. Visit the Site.
We worked with Humane Farm Animal Care from their inception in 2003 through 2009. In addition to creating the brand and label for their international food certification program, we worked with them to enhance and maintain their website as their budget allowed. Built custom applications to power their Producers database of products and their News and Press Release databases. The site was edited by well meaning volunteers and others. By 2008 it had become apparent that the site needed some serious work that couldn't be accomplished by volunteers. The website had fallen into disrepair. Not only was it outdated, but had been a victim of too many hands in the pot. Volunteers and others had edited the site over time, and left loose ends and messy code. Links were broken and information had been added in piecemeal fashion over the years creating a confusing online environment. The time had come for a complete website redesign.
We launched a new website design with a much more open feel - using whitespace and a friendly accent font to create almost a "breath of fresh air". The new architechture allowed a much more friendly and intuitive organization of information, letting visitons quickly and easily find the information that they were seeking. Unfortunately the client did not have the time or financial resources to fully revise their text, or create new areas for their audience to explore, but by repurposing the older content and displaying it in a new easier to understand way, the information was given new life.
Like many not-for-profit entities, Humane Farm Animal Care gets a lot done on a shoe string budget, and the website redesign was no exception. Among other things, we split the project into phases for the client for affordability. This means that some of the more dynamic areas of the site will be integrated into the new design at a later date. But the result of the first phase - the launch of the bulk of the website, brought an ease of use and a welcomed change to visitors.
Humane Farm relaunched their website in Spring of 2010 and the site that exists today was created by another firm.

The Derry History Museum in Derry NH is a non-profit who was in need of a website to create interest and bring feet through the door. Derry's rich history is displayed in a homey yet professional manner at the museum and the site strives to bring the atmosphere of the brick and mortar place to the online environment. We shot on location to try to capture the exhibits as the person would experience themselves while there. We added the shots to the site using a flash photo gallery which brings a bit of polish to the experience. To try to engage the audience we added a small quiz on the homepage - based on a polling script to get them guessing and interacting with the site. The site was created for the Museum pro bono as a community service to our hometown.
This new to the industry start up in the financial and banker sector was heating up. The folks at Falco Inc. had a great idea, a great new product and interest was growing fast. We helped them pull a professional face together by creating a logo and professional stationary system, as well as a matching brochure-ware type website. They needed an online environment that would allow potential customers and investors to learn about their new product and easily contact them for further and deeper information. The site acts as an online brochure to entice and intrigue the audience just enough to ask for more. The sites audience is conservative and traditional, and selling a new digital web based solution to them is difficult. Using dark blue, white and dollar bill green the site fits well within the clients industry and feels solid and trustworthy. The site provides a connection to their web based secure environment via an unobtrusive yet easy to find link, and we worked with their applications developer to carry the look and feel of the public site into the private secure areas of the site as well. Timberland has been a steady client since 2000. We have been lucky enough to work with them on numerous projects in a multitude of divisions and a variety of media from packaging, advertising, and E-marketing to this piece - an interactive Flash press kit / catalog. The project had a tight two phase timeframe, super rush, and not so super rush. to meet the first dates we created the piece as an interactive pdf, and then went back to re-create it in flash for their next phase release. The flash version gave the user some tactile experience, and a pleasant interactive experience, while finding the information they sought. The audience for the piece was the media, and was distributed to them on CD for use at their offices. The goal was to introduce the new product lines to the media, and give them an easy way to request samples for their research. The piece was a very well received and we look forward to the next version to come. Click to View the interactive pdf. This work is Copyright 2007 Timberland.
Successful Architect Gordon S. Loud needed a website that would act as a selling tool and represent his own unique style and capabilities. He had a distinct idea about what he wanted to convey, especially of import was representing his process as well as his portfolio. A non-standard architectural website was needed, as Gordon wanted to stand out from the crowd online as much as he does in his work. His unique approach to his architecture and Interior design projects needed to be reflected well in the site. The site includes numerous flash galleries that highlight his work, and set to music they provide an nice interactive experience for the audience. His process and documentation is a large part of his appeal to his clients and those one of the main focuses of the site as well. Recently Gordon officially added Interior Design to his offerings and recent site update includes this information, which we seamlessly added to his existing site. The historic color palette was drawn from the arts and crafts era pulling colors from nature together vibrantly. gsloud-architect.com won a bronze Horizon award in 2007. Woodbury Lutheran Church in Minnesota came to us to redesign their website which was stagnant and bland. They had a established a brand that had gotten lost and diluted and wanted their site to evoke a clean modern feel that would appeal to the families of the church. We provided a design to them that highlighted more clearly their brand, and used a more modern appealing color scheme to provide warmth. An integrated calendar system was suggested as was a more compartmentalized homepage that would allow them to highlight events and important information about their congregation. We provided the site design layouts for this project, and JR Assoc. a local development firm in Minnesota is handling the development and implementation.
The New Hampshire Association of Conservation Commissions approached us to redesign their website which was out of date, disorganized and failing to do its job. We worked with the client to establish a list of goals for the project which included the ability for them to maintain the website themselves. Their wish list was broken into phases and the current site is the result of the phase one launch. The site is powered by a content and navigation management system which allows the client to keep the site updated and fresh. We added some homepage components to allow them to highlight important dates and happenings, and added a "Did You Know" feature that the client can change to keep the content fresh. We reorganized the content into more digestible chunks so that audience can more easily find the information they seek. Including very important information on forming and maintaining a conservation commission, RSA's that govern what conservation commissions can and should do, resources, news and a large list of commissions in the state of NH. Oakstone Publishing / Personal Best is a long-time client that we have worked with on numerous web projects including their recent website redesign, icon creation, e-mail templates and e-publications. The holiday season of 2007 presented a new and very enjoyable challenge, to create an interactive greeting card for them to send out to clients and colleagues. The result is a flash based card which uses a fun holiday music track, crackling fire sounds, falling snow and flickering candles to create a healthy holiday table scape. The e-cards focus is a combination greeting and recipe card - the healthy recipe viewable with a simple click on the recipe tab. Click here to view the e-card. This flash piece uses sound - so you may want to turn your speakers down.
Mill Direct Textiles is a retailer and wholesaler of Polarfleece fabrics. They had recently reorganized their company, moved locations, and changed principles involved and needed a new logo and website quickly, all on a start up budget. the result was a simply executed tower logo, one design presented, and the design and organization of their new website shown here. The website design needed to accomplish both a new design and also the existing back end database and display from their former website. Not an easy task... however the new design accomplishes this by creating a templated look and feel that was used as a page wrap to the existing e-commerce back-end. the result is attractive and budget friendly for them. We handled the design of the front-end, the architecture, and the CSS styles, and the site design was integrated by the clients contracted web development firm for the code and database tie-in. Duncan's European Automotive needed a website as professional as their services. Not merely a mechanic or garage, Duncan's auto caters to each and every client and they wanted their website to evoke their personal service and their personality. In addition to the usual about us sections and directions, the site includes photo galleries of their immaculate facility and a feedback system to allow clients to give them feedback, good or bad about the service they receive. We built an admin system to allow management to review the comments and post them after approval. The website is often mentioned in communication with Duncan's new clients who are impressed with the professionalism which they note is not easy to find in his industry. In addition to the usual design and development services, we also provided photography services doing photo shoots of the facility and the personnel. Click here to visit the site.
PureAthletic.com is a small website for an innovative product by an innovative inventor. We designed the site years ago, but include it here because we feel that it still holds up today in terms of design, load times, and effectiveness.
AF Studios an innovative start-up company run by the same innovative family that ran the original Malden Mills, came to us to develop a brand and website for their new venture in 2006. We launched an innovative website to cater to their existing clients of Polar fleece materials. The site was a combination of e-commerce, community, and helpful hints for the sewing enthusiast. We utilized hand illustrations and hand drawn imagery throughout the site to create a hand-made feel, and coupled that with innovative navigational techniques such as hidden mouseovers which intrigued the user and got them to interact with the website. Sadly AF Studios is defunct, but we include it here because before leaving the web world the site won some accolades from our Peers - it took best in category in the 2006 NH Internet Awards.
StoneSpeak.net rises above the traditional "artist portfolio" websites, by using the artists work itself to inspire the design. Not only does the design evoke the spirit of the artist and her work, but creates a mood that was desired by the client / artist. We shot the photos for this website in addition to the design and development of the site. Click here to visit the site.
Dreamchild is an intensely creative musical duo from Boston that we have been working with for over a decade. Among the projects that we have completed are their 3 CD packages and this website. Although designed a number of years ago - the site remains effective for them as it reflects well the mood of their extremely dramatic, evocative and theatrical music. They are able to update the sites content areas themselves to try to keep it fresh, and we are currently working on an admin system and flash galleries to afford them even more control.
